Burning Zone

Operating Temperature: 1600–1800°C

The burning zone endures continuous contact with molten clinker (CaO·Al₂O₃·SiO₂ system) at peak flame temperatures up to 1800°C under alternating oxidizing and reducing atmospheres. The dominant failure mode is slag penetration along grain boundaries, followed by structural spalling. Highland specifies magnesia-iron spinel brick or direct-bonded magnesia brick (MgO ≥80%) for this zone — materials that maintain structural integrity through molten slag exposure and demonstrate low creep deformation under sustained thermal load, directly determining campaign life length.

Transition Zone

Operating Temperature: 1200–1600°C

The transition zone is defined by rapid thermal cycling — temperature gradients of up to 300°C between kiln shell and hot face — combined with intermittent coating formation and loss. This alternating mechanical stress pattern causes progressive micro-cracking in conventional high alumina brick. Kiln Head & Cooling Zone

Operating Temperature: 1000–1400°C

The kiln head and cooler inlet face severe mechanical abrasion from high-velocity clinker discharge combined with alkali-bearing dust infiltration from the cooling airstream. The wear mechanism here is primarily erosive — not thermal — meaning refractories must prioritize cold crushing strength and abrasion resistance over peak temperature capability. Highland specifies first-grade high alumina brick (Al₂O₃ ≥75%, CCS ≥60MPa) for the main lining, complemented by silicon carbide castable at wear-critical transition joints and discharge lips where brick geometry cannot provide continuous coverage.

Preheater Cyclones & Kiln Tail

Operating Temperature: 800–1300°C

Preheater cyclones and the kiln tail riser duct are exposed to concentrated alkali-rich gas streams (K₂O, Na₂O, SO₃) at moderate temperatures. This environment destroys standard high alumina brick through sulfate salt crystallization within the pore structure — a failure mode that produces progressive surface spalling invisible until large panel loss occurs. The total timeline depends on material type and project scope. For standard-grade materials (high alumina brick, alkali-resistant brick), production and shipping requires 30–40 working days. For custom-profiled bricks machined from your kiln drawings, allow 40–60 working days from drawing confirmation. On-site installation for a full kiln relining typically requires 10–15 working days depending on kiln size and zone scope. We recommend submitting drawings and initiating the order during the preceding campaign to avoid production gaps.

Q2: If a lining failure occurs during the warranty period, who is responsible — the material or the installation?

Highland covers both under a single 12-month joint warranty. When Highland supplies both material and installation, there is no separate material supplier and installation contractor to negotiate between. If lining failure occurs within the warranty period due to either material defect or installation workmanship, Highland provides free replacement material and covers re-installation labor costs. Failure caused by kiln operating conditions outside the agreed design parameters (e.g., temperature exceedance) is assessed case-by-case with full documented records.

Q3: We are an overseas cement plant — can Highland send an installation team to our site?

Yes. Highland dispatches experienced refractory installation engineers to project sites across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. For other regions, we provide detailed installation technical drawings, mortar specification sheets, and remote video support to work alongside your local installation contractor. All installation guidance documentation is available in English and Arabic. Site mobilization timeline and travel logistics are confirmed at the project planning stage before material order placement.

Q4: We only need to reline one zone — do you accept partial kiln projects?

Yes. Highland accepts single-zone and partial relining projects with no minimum zone requirement. Whether you need burning zone brick only, preheater castable replacement, or kiln head patch repair supply, we provide the same zone-matched material specification and batch certification as a full-kiln project.
